How Our Data Works
What You'll Receive
Access to a comprehensive database of hospitals that have sponsored physicians on visas from 2017-2022. This data is mined from US Government Agencies and filtered using our proprietary algorithms to identify J-1 waiver positions.
Information Provided
State-level data: Number of positions, number of hospitals, and historical sponsorship trends.
Hospital-level data: Institution name, location, number of positions sponsored, years of sponsorship activity, and salary information.
What Each Specialty Purchase Includes
When you buy a specialty list and select one or more states, you get a list of hospitals that have sponsored attendings on a visa in that specialty from 2017-2022, plus position-level details from USCIS records to help you identify which positions are likely J-1 waiver positions.
- Hospital name and location for the selected state(s), based on historical sponsorship
- For each hospital, a list of sponsored positions from 2017-2022 (including the year the employment starts)
- Position-level USCIS details to help you identify which of these are likely J-1 waiver positions
- Salary information where available in the underlying records
- Community-contributed notes/feedback where available
Pricing: Our pricing works out to $5 per hospital, per state (state prices vary based on how many hospitals appear in that state for a specialty).

Identifying J-1 Waiver Positions
Hospitals on our list indicate three important historical signals (past sponsorship does not guarantee future sponsorship):
- They are able to sponsor you — They may be in underserved areas, care for underserved populations, or meet other state-specific criteria. Sometimes even the employer does not know if they can sponsor you.
- They have a history of J-1 waiver sponsorship — Not every hospital chooses to go through the process, but these have demonstrated prior commitment.
- They have experience with the process — These places typically have immigration lawyers and HR staff familiar with the process and timeline.
How This Data Benefits You
- Save time by focusing on hospitals with proven sponsorship history
- Discover institutions that don't advertise J-1 sponsorship but have sponsored waivers before
- Negotiate better compensation with salary data context
- Make informed decisions about where to apply based on historical data

Who This Service Is For
This service is exclusively designed for medical fellows and residents seeking J-1 waiver positions.
Registration Requirement: To ensure our database serves legitimate medical professionals in training, we verify access using an institutional email address (university or hospital email). You can still register with a personal email, but you will be asked to verify the institutional email during the process.
Why this requirement? We don't allow recruiters to access this database and resell it to their clients at large markups. We have refunded recruiters in the past and this verification protects fellows and residents and keeps pricing fair for trainees.
Verification steps we are adding:
- Automatically email a verification link from sign.j-1waiver.com to the institutional address.
- If you are purchasing for a spouse/partner, add a comment at checkout and provide their institutional email for verification.
- Partner/spouse purchases are allowed, but we still require verification of the resident/fellow's institutional email.
